Tenderhearted Me

Mixing for Myself

I thought about all the mixes I made for others. Now to sit and really listen to songs I have picked for myself is refreshing. Life is so hard for me sometimes. That might sound weak but, I am resilient as hell. I asked myself today if I was happy. A question deserving the truth and I said yes. I'm defying gravity most of the time meaning I am comfortable with myself. I could really use a woman's touch in my life. I will get everything I need in due time. It's A Sad & Beautiful World (for Betsy Brown)

you are not alone
in the emptiness you felt
in the cards you've been dealt
living through life's in-betweens
empty spaces with other human beings

you are not alone
accepting the nothingness is not dealing
let go, carry on & start the healing
you can't change the past & the things that went wrong
individuality, empowerment & the art of being strong

you are not alone
respect is a form of love, surrender all your wants
surround yourself with good people, understand why they care
nothing can take the place or fill up that empty space
remember to preserve the optimism, hold yourself dear

you are not alone
you are still growing as a person, learning to take care of yourself
learn from your fear & pain, both are teachers unlike anything else
loving some one who is your friend, knowing where they begin & end
always live for others & let others live for you

you are not alone
making yourself useful, oneness of empowerment, use what god gave you
seek a world of facts & truths, you with find goodness when you look through your blues
permit yourself to feel good again, even when, dealing with loss & lonesomeness
even the weak survive, it's just a difference in the quality of existence

Drifter's Blessing

Break-Up

No love lost. I nipped it in the bud. I saw no future with Marcia. The idea was nice. I got a Valentine's Day mix out of it and this. Live and learn. She was looking for somebody else, not me. Dragging the River is my favorite break-up song ever and it was a joke but, I am pleased to use it, of course. The biggest blessing for a Drifter is to have no strings attached. The freedom and the choices I have now make the lonesome feeling go away. Enjoy! on mixcloud!

Breaking The Constraints of a Individual

(Learning from the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)

use your speech to convey
what your heart says to you
in a ordinary way
oh,to communicate
oh,to make known
I am learning everyday
through listening to my heart
I've shone to myself how I have grown
with these delicate hours alone
I've been blessed with the grace to think
about what is best for myself
carefully I thought about all that I got
to give in my friendly way
I'm not living for anyone
I'm living for today
I have my own special way
to succeed,prosper & grow
meeting my needs
I am an individual
I'm not like everyone else
that's all I need to know
distinguished from a group
I don't separate because,
that makes me vulnerable
it's in these good common things
human things
I share with others
friendships are very contagious
transmitted to courage
human things
doing right to make better
the common good for all
I do know how people are
disappointing,to do what's easy,lazy
I have courage,to solve problems
I can always work to make myself
a better person, some one to believe in
not so much as a leader
but,get beyond the constraints of a individual
limitation or restriction
to make myself useful
so god can use me
I can help others
I feel others need me
I am a tool
for fixing
I am here if you need me
ready to serve
to be apart
to give back
something to show for
how I live

Night In The Old Life

I walk out into the night
dimly lit darkness
stars shine bright, only in the moonlight
cobalt blue shades in the shadows
reflections in the shadows are white
my mind caresses the darkness of night
a feeling of comfort comes over me
I picture alleyways as far as I can see
reflecting the swarthy face I see in me
I hold a oneness with the night
The Fan with it's darkened haunted trees
"The Hand of God" ,I mumble to myself
I am alone with the night
through the back ways crossroads & paths
slums of trash can alleys
quiet sleek meek black cats cross my paths
endless city blocks, alone and without
deep urges get into my walk
the way I wear my hair
and the hipness of my talk
a cat bag strapped across my shoulder
silk paisley on my hat
fortified in with 70's fashions
chucks with argyle socks
unbuttoned flannel, baggy jeans and beard
bright colored clothes never seemed wierd
sitting at a sidewalk cafe on every block
drinking the drams, dark beers & ales
nothing in my pocket but, the summer sunset
twisting a bone in the bathroom
smoking and walking on my way back home
I think to myself, "What A Wonderful World"
stealing away the angel headed hipsters from "Howl"
from your loving cup, what a beautiful Buzzzzzzzzz...
back into the night life & cool darkness, cover
one can't possess another my dream lover
but, i'm in the mood, with your loving on my mind
Monk's Mood plays in the background of my fantasy
the caress of your kiss, your loving I miss...sweet jellyroll...
back to my room with Dylan's love songs
diversion to occupy the trueness about what is real love
about what real love supposed to be
it's friendship first and foremost
I don't want to fail at another relationship
the night calls me...
I listen to it now
think to myself
how the nightlife
how the old life
felt to me

Sitting In Therapy

it relieves tension
talking about my thinking
adjusting the extension of my thoughts
talking,making the connections
how I am feeling,how I am living
some one who is listening and interjecting
some one who is getting what I am giving
talking about my thinking
sitting in therapy
I am feeling so good
some one is listening
all I need to feel
to be understood for real
getting something back
is mostly what I lack
listening to input
concerning the positive
human interaction
to hear clear
and contribute to
things that are true
understanding
knowledge of self
the magic that happens with some one else
now when I listen
in touch with my mental health
I am growing with the spirit of self
yes,the human spirit
powerful
and I've been blessed
I've been so many people
I have to tell the truth
a painter
a loner
a poet
a mix-maker
a loser
a prophet
6 years on this journey
I was really sick
I faced it
I didn't like what I see
plenty of changes about me
time has told me
there are many things to be
I like what I see
me in this light
shone bright in the dark of night
me in this light
now,I can be proud of my change
there are many ways to live
busy being free
talking about my thinking
sitting in therapy
thinking about sitting in therapy
biding my time,enjoying the clarity
lucidity of perception
that is so important
I am starting to recover
I am a sight for sore eyes
I saw the light today
finally feel right today
I have a purpose
out in the light of day
being me
being free
in therapy

Starting Anew Mixing for Marcia (pronounced Marsha) Forest

My job was just a ass-ess-ment. It's over and I have to wait 3 weeks to hear back if they liked me or not. 2 other people are interested so I am not too hopeful. The last day at work at the end of the day Marcia came up to me and gave me her cell phone number. I am hopeful about her. See and I talked all weekend and really hit it off. A Conscientious Mind

hear for to listen
in time
ask the question
in your mind
what have you got?
the things that you are
the things that you are not
the things that you are
ways that you have been half-taught
picking up from people
hearing what you want to
learning what is simple

fanaticized with half-truths
4 billion fantasies
fulfilling a need
deduced from african folklore
mind-concrol with
money, power & greed
the message is to think like me
see, be, apart of my fantasy
are Jesus' fans free?
are you happy or just high?
with a human gleam in your eye
no earthly good
passing judgement to get by

hope, over at the church of light
the people look up at the cross on the steeple
your conscience told you were right
you don't mind being wrong
hope, expectations are centered
I don't know what happens after death
the white light when you take your last breath
death is the one universal truth
with a conscientious mind
everyman's conscience is vile & depraved
so think with your heart
there may not be a judgement day
live for others
distinction
let others live for you
seek a world of truth
you may not like what you find
still, seek a world of truth
the truth is not always convenient
learn from what you find
truth will light the pathway of your time
truth will light the pathway of your mind
truth will light the pathway of how you are defined

Temporary Hobo Bard : Dedicated To Jessie Lynn,Best of Hobo Tales

I wrote Temporary Hobo Bard to express my love for the hobos, squatter crusty punks & bums I used to drink with when I lived in the city. My love for folk music was shared with these young folks coming in from the train yards from all over. Writing was not that important back then. Temporary Hobo Bard was my first poem written in my modern existence. It has a special place in my little heart. Now days I wish I could write something as fresh. My writing is changing but,so is everything.
As for this mix I dedicated it to my trusty mix-making partner Rust Belt Jessie. She is a mom now. I don't want to bother her with my wants to continue our Hobo Tales. I took all the Hobo Tales and picked all my favorites so this was made without her. She has made me a happy mix maker. Even before I met her I've been making Hobo Tales for years. Jessie never let me down with any of her picks. I am a lonely man. The kindness she has showed me is very valuable. I will always look back on these times and Hobo Tales with fond memories. Enjoy!

Temporary Hobo Bard

She hung her pretty head and cried
Just because I can hopped a old freight train
Popped the can, churched keyed the back and
opened it up wide.
Brand new Carhartt overalls, patches in my memories
Work clothes but, work I can't abide
It's the first of may on this hazy winter's day
Go far far way...disappeared...

Especially,to all of y'all
Determining mentally upon some action...
Out shakin' hands looking for a place to lay
Drinkin' and stinkin'
All good times I crave
Hand me down my banjo one more time
Way down on old chestnut street
...Jägermeister...
Stagger and stepped, lost my way
Who Threw The Whiskey In The Well
by: Lucky Millinder And His Orchestra
played in the background
She drank and her nose was red as a rose...
Like one of the ghost in Ironweed
Street walkers trot &mingle like company suppose to do
...shuckin' & jivin'...
Playin' for nickels & dimes,it's a hard road.
Playin' by ear beneath the piano
It's better to have a bottle in front of me...
Another hand out,it's effective for a time only
Brother,Sister,Can You Spare A Dime?
