As The Poet Prays
it's these waves of endless crashing
on the shores of the devotion
between light and dark to the belief
confined in the symmetry divine
an idyll of pictures like haikus to time
the phase of haze to look yonder hill
mirrored thoughts confronted still
the dim imagery of the dream
how the morning sunlight caresses
the inward self of the passing pastoral scene
beauty calls in endless words without meaning
every behavior is circumstance of communication
the alone forever free of something to be
the stars burn against the wintered blue of projection
the reality of recovery, night sky and me
in the darkness maybe the object of the light
a poet of to and of, shine in the mind of free
plain to taste, bland and a hunger, plain to see
oh, how I worked the land, reaping the right
oh, how I got behind the plow, sowing in the night
to dirt of the earth, to grow in the garden
the solid soil fertile and full of weeds, on sunlight
forsaken crops feed, I beg your pardon
prayer for rain, prayer for food, discerning myself for insight
asking god in the careful talk of the night
